Scan your document at a lower resolution (96 DPI). Crop the image to remove any empty space around it. Shrink the image. Save the file in JPG format instead.
When you rasterize a smart object (Layer>Rasterize>Smart Object), you're taking away its intelligence, which saves space. All the code that makes up the different functions of the object are now deleted from the file, thus making it smaller.
If you choose the Create PDF Compatible File option, then Illustrator creates a file with an accompanying PDF syntax that is compatible with any application that recognizes PDF files. If you choose this option, then the file size increases because you're saving two formats within the Illustrator file.
Using compression increases the time required to save the document, so deselect this option if you're experiencing very slow (8 to 15 minute) save times. Saves each artboard as a separate file. A separate master file that includes all of the artboards is also created.
Flatten transparency for individual objects
The Flatten Transparency command lets you see what your artwork will look like when flattened.The simplest is to re-save your file as a reduced-size PDF. In the latest version of Adobe Acrobat, open the PDF you wish to re-save as a smaller file, choose File, Save as Other, and then Reduced Size PDF. You'll be prompted to select the version compatibility you need and then you can click OK to save.
To scale from the center, choose Object > Transform > Scale or double-click the Scale tool . To scale relative to a different reference point, select the Scale tool and Alt‑click (Windows) or Option‑click (Mac OS) where you want the reference point to be in the document window.
Once you've saved a copy of your work, bring up the Layers panel menu by clicking the dropdown arrow in the panel's top right corner. Then, choose "Flatten Artwork" to consolidate all of your layers.
How can I check if my PDF has been flattened? An easy way to test if your file has been flattened is by trying to use the Highlight function. If the Highlight function does not recognize any text, then the file unfortunately has been flattened.
If you truly want to flatten it out: select all objects (CTL-A) then I like to ungroup (CTL-SHIFT-G) then Object->Expand and you might have to do this several times so that there are no strokes/lines or symbols, everything is fills, then hit Pathfinder ->Merge.

- Select all.
- Choose Object > Flatten Transparency from the menu and move the slider all the way to "vector"
- Click OK.
- Use the Direct Select tool (white arrow) and click something white.
- Choose Select > Same > Fill & Stroke from the menu.
- Hit the Delete key.
Rasterizing in Illustrator means losing its original data and converting it to something more specific in nature. So, in this case, we use Rasterize in Illustrator that changes the vector quality of the object to the raster or bitmap image without losing its original quality.

To combine or merge objects in Illustrator, follow these simple steps:
- Open up the interface and switch to the Selection Tool.
- Select your objects.
- Now select the Shape Builder Tool (or use the shortcut Shift + M).
- Drag your mouse between the objects you want to merge.
- Release the mouse to merge the objects.
To display a file at 100%, choose View > Actual Size, or double-click the Zoom tool. To fill the window with the selected artboard, choose View > Fit Artboard In Window, or double-click the Hand tool. To view everything in the window, choose View > Fit All In Window.
In practice, owing to the vagaries of printer drivers and monitor/display drivers, the displayed page size is approximate, but other than slight discrepancies of this kind, 100% means "actual size as it will be when printed".

Scale a document for printing
- Choose File > Print.
- Do one of the following: To prevent scaling, select Do Not Scale. To scale the document automatically to fit to the page, select Fit To Page. The scaling percentage is determined by the imageable area defined by the selected PPD.
In the Layers panel, simply shift click on the three layers and drag them into the MASK layer. Make sure the path is sitting above the three layers, as you see in the Illustration below. Step 4. At this point, you have everything you need in order to preview your art without the bleed.
Zoom tool: Using the Zoom tool, you can click the Document window to zoom in; to zoom out, Alt-click (Windows) or Option-click (Mac). Double-click with the Zoom tool to quickly resize the Document window to 100 percent.
Illustrator provides a default set of SVG effects. You can use the effects with their default properties, edit the XML code to produce custom effects, or write new SVG effects. Note: To modify Illustrator's default SVG filters, use a text editor to edit the Adobe SVG Filters.
Insufficient MemoryIf you're running Adobe Illustrator on a system with limited memory or hard drive space, your computer may be unable to keep up with the demands of previewing your artwork. Increasing the amount of RAM on your system may help ease your workflow.
