Flying-foxes are a wonderful buddy to have around as they are great pollinators. Almost all hardwood species need Flying foxes for pollination. They are the only known pollinators of some rainforest species and are also important to native plants. Flying-foxes don't use sound to navigate.
Flying foxes will not swoop to attack humans. They will not get caught in the hair of a passer-by. If left alone, they are not dangerous to humans.
Some species of flying foxes are called epauletted bats because males have large retractable patches of fur that sprout out from pouches in their shoulders during their courtship displays. Female epauletted bats "give birth to a single baby once or twice a year.
Help for Flying-foxes
- Nettings. Ideally netting should not be used at all, but if you believe you must use netting to protect your fruit trees make sure it is done properly .
- Wires. Barbwire can destroy the bats' mouths and wings.

Flying foxes are intelligent and remarkable. These unique animals help regenerate our forests and keep ecosystems healthy through pollination and seed dispersal. Flying foxes are bats or, more accurately, mega-bats (big bats).
Pteropus (suborder Yinpterochiroptera) is a genus of megabats which are among the largest in the world. They are commonly known as fruit bats or flying foxes, among other colloquial names. Flying foxes eat fruit and other plant matter, and occasionally consume insects as well.

When baby bats, called pups, are born they come into the world with their mothers ready to take care of them. Hanging from her perch bat moms give birth upside down! There for her baby right away mother bats act fast, catching the blind baby in her wings.

Bats produce "pings" or "clicks," right? They make these high-pitched sounds, too high for us to hear, but when their cries ricochet off distant objects, the echoes tell them there's a house over there, a tree in front of them, a moth flying over on the left. And so they "see" by echolocation.
