Please read over this aftercare carefully. Let's make sure that tattoo of yours heals b-e-a-utiful! Leave your Saniderm wrap on for at least 3 days, no more than 6 days. During this time your tattoo is going to weep and the bandage is going to fill up with body fluid called plasma.
Your first piece of Saniderm applied by the artist must be worn for 24 hours, do not remove it early. You will have irritation, redness, bleeding, seeping, and ink collect under the bandage.
Saniderm should not be worn for more than 7 days total.
While wearing SANIDERM you CAN go swimming, hot tub, and bathe like normal. You may notice the corners peel up a bit. Your artist has left enough room around your tattoo that you are able to cut the peeled corners. Make sure the tattoo is not EXPOSED.
Keep the Saniderm on for a minimum of 24 hours, and a maximum of 4-5 days. The longer you are able to keep it on, the more your tattoo will be able to heal while bandaged.
Once you remove the saniderm from your tattoo, make sure to gently wash it with unscented antibacterial soap and pat or air dry. Apply a very thin layer of suggested aftercare ointment 2-3 times a day for 2 weeks, until the tattoo is fully healed (no more peeling, dry, or cracked skin).
Sunburned skin can do a lot of damage to tattoos, especially if your tattoo is new. New tattoos are essentially open wounds that shouldn't be exposed to direct sunlight until they're healed. New tattoos that get sunburned may take longer to heal. They may itch and blister.
After a few days, the tattoo should begin to feel less sore and red. A person may notice their tattoo appears duller than it did initially. This appearance is not a cause for concern but a sign that the tattoo is healing. Sometimes, as the skin is healing, people may notice some scabbing.
New tattoos are essentially open wounds that shouldn't be exposed to direct sunlight until they're healed. New tattoos that get sunburned may take longer to heal. They may itch and blister. Even sunburns on old tattoos can cause lasting damage.
Keep out of direct sunlightDo your very best not to expose your new tattoo to direct sunlight for up to 1 month after getting it, and especially during that 14 day period. Sunlight will burn the delicate skin and cause fading.
A variety of health effects can result from tattooing. Because it requires breaking the skin barrier, tattooing carries inherent health risks, including infection and allergic reactions. The wide range of pigments currently used in tattoo inks may create unforeseen health problems.
With the sunny weather and high temperatures in the summer, it's important to take proper care of your new tattoo. So while it may be tempting to go for a dip, exposing your fresh tattoo may be harmful and can cause the skin to itch, dry-out and even flake. The longer you wait, the better it'll heal.
Tattoo blowouts occur when a tattoo artist presses too hard when applying ink to the skin. The ink is sent below the top layers of skin where tattoos belong. Below the skin's surface, the ink spreads out in a layer of fat. This creates the blurring associated with a tattoo blowout.
There are some things you can do to speed up the healing process.
- Cover tattoo with clothing. Sunlight can cause your tattoo to fade, and fresh tattoos are especially sensitive to the sun.
- Don't re-bandage after you take off the initial dressing.
- Clean daily.
- Apply ointment.
- Don't scratch or pick.
- Avoid scented products.
In general you should leave the first piece of Saniderm on your tattoo for at least 24 hours after your artist applies it, but no longer than 7 days.
After four days, the best way to remove your saniderm is to slowly peel it off in the shower. It might be sore, so don't panic if it's tender. After the saniderm is removed, wash and moisturize your tattoo as usual using the directions below. Leave the bandage on for one to four hours.
Pulling upward on the Saniderm can be painful, so we don't recommend it. In cases like this, try removing the Saniderm in a warm shower. The warmth will loosen the adhesive, making it easier and more comfortable to remove.
To remove Saniderm, find an edge of the bandage and pull it back over itself in the direction of hair growth. The shower is the ideal place to remove Saniderm. Running water will help loosen the adhesive and relax the skin, making the removal much more comfortable.
If your tattoo IS scabbing underneath Saniderm, as long as there are no signs of infection or contamination, we recommend leaving the bandage on. Removing Saniderm from a scabbing tattoo may pull the scabs off prematurely, disturbing the ink and resulting in color and detail loss.
This means Saniderm can never damage or extract your ink. There is no need to worry about Saniderm negatively affecting your ink at all. In fact, customers report that their tattoos retain more of the vibrant color of fresh ink after using Saniderm, compared to tattoos that have healed by other methods.
While an air bubble under Saniderm is not necessarily “bad,” it will likely cause problems with adhesion further on down the line. A: Simply make a small cut, let the air bubble out, and apply an additional small piece of Saniderm over the newly exposed area.
The healing process usually takes a week to two weeks. Saniderm sends you in a completely different direction. Your first Saniderm bandage goes on for 8-24 hours and is removed when the lymph (that sticky clear fluid) build up breaks the seal. A thorough wash, and then you apply a second Saniderm bandage.
If you get your Saniderm wet, it's no big deal! Saniderm stays on skin even when wet. Although you can easily wash after applying Saniderm, it is important to still monitor the time you spend in the shower. Prolonged exposure to water will weaken the adhesion, so avoid soaking.
Your first piece of Saniderm should be used for no more than 24 hours. Your remaining pieces of Saniderm can be used for up to six days (each piece may be left on for 48 hours each) - which gives you a full week of healing. In some cases, you may find you only need one additional piece of Saniderm.
Yes you can. Wash the area with tattoo soap first and let it thoroughly dry. Then apply Saniderm. You can leave the piece in place for 5 or so days.
