Type “Control Panel” in the taskbar's search field and select the resulting Control Panel desktop app. Select “Hardware and Sound” on the main Control Panel menu, followed by “Sound” on the next panel. Select your audio device listed under the “Playback” tab and right-click to open a menu.
Right-click the audio device, and then select Update Driver Software. Click Browse my computer for driver software. Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer, and then select Show compatible hardware. Select the audio device from the list, and then click Next to install the driver.
Click “Hardware and Sound.” In the menu that you just opened, there will be an option titled “Hardware and Sound.” Next to it, there is an icon of a printer and a speaker. Click “Add a device.” This will be a blue link at the top left of your menu. When you click this, a screen will pop up.
Step 1: Type sound in the search box and choose Sound in the result to open Sound settings. Step 2: In the Sound window, choose Sounds and select Device Connect in program events. Step 3: Click the bar where Windows Hardware Insert is under Sounds, choose an option in the list provided and tap OK.
Using the Windows Key shortcutPress the Windows key + Pause key. In the window that appears, select Device Manager. Click the Arrow next to Sound, video and game controllers. Your sound card is in the list that appears.
Check your sound settings
- From the Apple menu ?, choose System Preferences.
- Click Sound.
- Click the Output tab, then select the built-in speakers.
- If the Output volume slider is set low, move the slider to the right and test again.
- If the Mute checkbox is selected, deselect it and test again.
In the Audio MIDI Setup app on your Mac, click the Add button at the bottom of the sidebar in the Audio Devices window, then choose Create Multi-Output Device. A new multi-output device appears in the sidebar. To rename the device, click it, then enter a new name.

Click on the Apple logo in the top left corner of the screen and click System Preferences. In the System Preferences window, click Sound and under the Output tab, select the HDMI option. This should produce both audio and video projection.
In order to change the sound output on a Mac, click the Apple icon → Click "System Preferences" → Click "Sound" → Click "Output" → Select an output device → Customize your device settings. Note: You'll need to have another output device connected in order to change to any option other than the default speakers.
Dust or fluff is enough to block the port from recognizing your headphones or speakers. Try blowing the dust off the jack and from inside the port on your Mac to see if that solves the problem. Plug the headphones back in while holding the volume buttons at the same time. Check the volume controls on your headphones.
With these new Macs, there are actually two distinct output devices. The headphone jack and the internal speakers are separate devices, completely independent from one another.
To change the volume on your Mac, click the Volume control in the menu bar, then drag the slider to adjust the volume (or use the Control Strip). If the Volume control isn't in the menu bar, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Sound.
