To obtain Polish citizenship, a foreigner must remain married to a Polish citizen for a period of at least 3 years and has stayed in Poland legally and uninterruptedly for at least 2 years under a permanent residence permit, and their knowledge of Polish language is documented.

How to obtain the PESEL number if a person is a foreigner (or an expat) As mentioned previously, most expats will obtain their PESEL number automatically as a result of fulfilling a legal obligation of registering their place of living (zameldowanie) in the local City Council (Urząd Miasta).
The passport number can also be found in the Machine Readable Zone (MRZ). It is the first 9 characters of the 2nd line of the MRZ. It can contain letters as well as numbers.
Citizens of EU, EEA countries and Switzerland have to apply for an EU residence document if they stay for more than 3 months. An EU residence document is your proof that as an EU citizen - or as family member of an EU citizen - you have a right to reside in Denmark.
The process is quite simple. If you are sure that you are in need of your PESEL number, fill in this application form. Please remember to bring along your travel documents (passport, visa etc.). The authority responsible for granting PESEL numbers is your relevant gmina office (Polish equivalent of a borough).
Poland is a party to the Schengen Agreement. This means that U.S. citizens may enter Poland for up to 90 days for tourist or business purposes without a visa. Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond the period of stay in Poland. You need to show sufficient funds and a return airline ticket.

But there are currently no travel restrictions to Poland and so those travelling to the country aren't required to self quarantine upon their return. The Foreign Office has instead advised Brits to dial 112 in the case of an emergency and ask for an ambulance.

Since Poland is part of the Schengen region, you will need a Poland Schengen Visa to enter the country. The Embassy of the Republic of Poland issues two types of visas: Schengen visa or 'C' visa which allows you a stay of up to 90 days per 180 days in Schengen area.
Europe passport requirements allow that once you arrive, you can travel between certain countries without a passport, according to the Schengen Agreement, but you will need a passport to cross borders into those that are not part of the Schengen area and when you return home.

Unfortunately a birth certificate is only considered a valid form of proof of citizenship and not identity, as this document is issued without a photo. This is considered a secondary form of ID, so you may need to provide additional forms of ID if you are traveling.

You need: an identity document - your passport, national identity card, biometric residence card or permit. a digital photo - you can take a selfie during the application.
Commonly accepted forms of proof of ID include; work ID badge, photo-card driving licence and passport, but there is no legal requirement to carry any ID at any time.
To get your first UK ID card online you must:
- be a UK resident (live in the United Kingdom)
- create your online account (complete a registration form and activate your account)
- complete an online application for a new (first-time) CitizenCard and make a payment.
You are advised not to travel outside the UK without your BRP. The BRP is proof of your immigration permission and you are normally required to show this in order to travel to, and re-enter the UK.
Driving licences, post, bank or tax cards are not accepted as valid travel documents or proof of identity. Ensure that you have either your ID or passport in your possession when travelling to these countries.
Citizens of the following countries can travel to the UK without a visa if they hold a valid Irish visa endorsed with BIVS: China. India.

EU citizens can enter the UK by either presenting their national identity card or their passport. There's a separate queue marked 'EEA/EU' for EU citizens.

A CitizenCard is an official UK ID / proof of age card recognised as such by the Home Office, the Chartered Trading Standards Institute and almost all UK retailers and public transport providers including UK airlines.
You'll have 30 days to leave the country from the date it expired. If you're an overstayer and want to stay in the UK, you should check what you can do. If you applied for a new visa before your old one expired, you can stay in the UK until you get a decision.
EU, EEA and Swiss citizens can continue to travel to the UK for holidays or short-term trips, without needing a visa. You can use either a valid passport or national identity card to enter the country.
