Our hospitalsOur Trust is made up of two of London's best known teaching hospitals – St Thomas' Hospital and Guy's Hospital. It also includes Evelina London Children's Hospital and both adult and children's community services in Lambeth and Southwark.
We also provide specialist services for patients from further afield, including cancer, cardiac, kidney, women's and orthopaedic services, and we are home to Evelina London Children's Hospital.
The nearest stations are:
- London Bridge – Northern and Jubilee lines (five minutes' walk) There is step-free access to the Jubilee and Northern Lines.
- Monument – District and Circle lines (15 minutes' walk)
- Borough – Northern line (15 minutes' walk).
Guy's Hospital is a five minute walk from here. If you have difficulty walking you may prefer to take the number 77 bus to Waterloo station from outside the A&E entrance to St Thomas' on Lambeth Palace Road.
Preparing your child for hospital
- Be clear and honest.
- Tell your child as much as you can about what will happen.
- Use simple words.
- Answer any questions truthfully.
- Try to make the experience positive by telling them about the hospital and the environment.
- Tell them that other children will also be at the hospital and how they might make new friends.
To see a paediatrician, you'll need a referral from your GP. Your GP is always a good place to start if you're worried about your child's health or development. Your GP can help you decide about seeing a paediatrician and help you find someone who's right for your child.
Community paediatricians provide medical input and may take a lead (with parents) in holistic planning for your child's needs. This includes diagnoses such as autistic spectrum disorder, developmental coordination disorder, learning difficulty, and many others.
What to Pack for Your Child's Hospital Visit
- Cosmetics and soaps. (We provide basic toiletries, but children are often more comfortable with their own).
- Bathrobe if desired and one change of clothes (including underwear). We will provide socks, but children may prefer their own.
- We carry most infant formulas.
PREPARATION FOR PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS
- Talk about your feelings together with your child.
- Provide honest information.
- Get the answers to your questions. Encourage your child to ask questions.
- Learn about tests, procedures and treatment planned for your child.
- Talk with the doctor about the plan for treatment.
Guy's Hospital is located in the Congestion Charging zone and the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ).
Flights take about three hours from New York City to just over two hours from Miami. Fly into Puerto Rico and take a short flight to St. Thomas.
Parking at our hospitals is very limited, please use public transport. Our hospitals are in the Congestion Charging zone and the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ).
By bus. These buses stop at London Bridge, London Bridge station or near Guy's hospital: 17, 21, 35, 40, 43, 47, 48, 133, 141, 149, 343, 381, 521, 701, RV1, C10. Allow 15-20 minutes to get from the bus stop to where you need to be in the hospital.
Parking at St Thomas' HospitalParking is very limited and there is often a queue. Our car park is open 24 hours a day and the charges are £3.20 per hour.
Train. Waterloo, Waterloo East, are the nearest railway stations, and are a 10-15 minutes' walk away. Step free access from Waterloo Station is via exit 3, near the clock. When leaving the station from exit 3, turn left and following the path to York Road for St Thomas' Hospital through to Evelina London.
