If you encounter the issue OneNote not syncing, you can try the following solutions.
- Update OneNote to the latest version.
- Check Notebook on the Web.
- Sync a notebook manually.
- Check storage space.
- Solve content sync conflict.
To sync manually, click File >View Sync Status. In the Shared Notebook Synchronization dialog box, click Sync manually. Important: When you work offline, OneNote no longer attempts to synchronize any notebook changes that you make on your computer, even if you exit and restart OneNote at a later time.

- Close OneNote.
- Click the Windows Start button.
- Open Settings.
- Open Accounts.
- Click on Email and Accounts on the left menu.
- Under Accounts used by other apps click on everything you have listed under here and select Remove.
The OneNote offline error could be due to the last app update that might have messed up the syncing. Download the latest update for the OneNote. For UWP (Universal Windows Platform) OneNote app, open Microsoft Store, and navigate to Downloads and Updates > Get Updates and install the latest version of the app.
OneNote sign in not working – If you're unable to sign in, the problem might be related to file corruption. To fix it, try using a different version of OneNote. If you encounter this error message, try signing in to the web version of OneNote and check if that helps.
OneNote 2016 stores all of your notes from your notebooks, which by default are stored in your Documents folder in their own specific folder. Alternatively, they are stored on Microsoft OneDrive. You can also store notebooks on a shared location on your network, or anywhere you want.
OneNote allows you to view and edit your Class Notebooks on your Android device when both online and offline. Launch the OneNote App and the Notebook section is displayed. OneNote lagging for a few seconds might be the result of a corrupted notebook. Copy the content of the problematic notebook and paste it into a new notebook. Save your notes. Then launch your Microsoft Store app, search for OneNote and click on the menu (three dots).
OneNote gives you everything Evernote can do for a fraction of the price. If you want to do more with your notes, such as add to-do lists and reminders, OneNote can do that, too. If you just want to take simple text-based notes and find them quickly, Evernote might be a better bet.
On your Windows PC, you can use whichever version of OneNote that you prefer most — or use both Windows versions side by side before you decide. When you're ready, you can change the default version of OneNote, so that shared notebooks will always open in your preferred version.
If you have a notebook stored locally on your computer that you wish to move to the cloud, go to File > Share in OneNote and pick a web location such as OneDrive, and then click Move Notebook. OneNote will upload the notebook to OneDrive and set up direct sync.
Do the following to manually sync your notes.
- On your Android phone, open OneNote, and then on the bottom left, tap Notebooks.
- Tap the More options button. , and then tap Settings.
- Tap Sync all.
Recover deleted notesAfter deleting a note, you have seven days to recover it. Click or tap a note to open it. Restore.
Just like your OneDrive documents, by default OneNote is keeping track of different versions of each page in your notebook. Go to the History tab, History group and select the dropdown for Page Versions. Notice on the right side, old page versions will appear shaded in grey.
Answer: OneNote itself has a recycle bin, and deleted notes and sections can be recovered back through the Recycle Bin. The Recycle Bin is kept for a period of 60 days. Open and login in OneNote Online, open the notebook, then click “View” tab -> “Versions” group -> “Deleted Notes” feature.

OneNote is not workingIf the OneNote Windows Store app is not working on your Windows 10 PC, you could open Settings > Apps > Apps & features > OneNote > Advanced Options and click on Reset to reset this Windows Store app. Once done, you may install it again by searching for it in the Windows Store.
Reset your application deletes the cache so all your notebooks will be deleted from the device, it also resets your preferences and your sign in information. After resetting the app you will be back in a brand new state just like when you installed the app for the first time.
Click the "Clear Cache" button to delete the OneNote cache. This deletes the existing cache file, and creates a fresh cache in its place.
Reinstall OneNote in Windows 10
- Open PowerShell command.
- Type following command: get-appxpackage *microsoft.office.onenote* | remove-appxpackage.
- Open Windows App Store and install OneNote.
