If you didn't already know, peanut butter is one of most effective household baits for rodents and nuisance animals. Please remember that groundhog baits are not 100% effective and some woodchucks will not be attracted to the materials.
For best results, create a bait trail with cantaloupe leading to the trap. If you are able to identify your groundhog's burrow, place some bait at the entrance, and then position your baited trap about 3 feet from the burrow. Avoid transferring your scent to the trap by wearing gloves when baiting and handling it.
Position your bait towards the center of the trap, luring the animal directly to the trigger plate. You can either place the bait directly onto the plate, hang it from the top of the trap directly above the plate, or place it in a hole in the ground directly underneath the plate.
Forcing a shy, hiding dog out from under tables, sofas or chairs when scared. Instead, let them come out of her own accord. If you must get your dog out, keep a leash on them in the home and use it to coax them out. Then have them sit for a treat.
Find a special treat that your dog only gets when he comes to you.
- Begin in the house, in the same room, just a few feet away as your dog.
- Repeat.

- Move outside to a securely fenced area or use a long tether to keep your dog safe.
- Gradually give the dog more freedom and more space.
"It takes a while for them to adapt to a family and that can be why they run off. "When a dog goes into survival mode, it reverts to its primal instincts, going back to the wildness of looking for food, shelter and water. "Once the dog finds a food source, and water, it will stay in the one area.
Here are 10 tips based on my experience chasing runaway dogs.

Here are four things you should try:
- Make Sure That You're Not Encouraging the Fear. If you see your scared dog in distress, your natural reaction may be to comfort him.
- Swaddle Your Pet. "Products like the ThunderShirt can work well," says Dr.
- Expose Your Pet to the Fear in a Controlled Setting.
- Take Your Pet to the Vet.
WHEN YOU FIXATE ALL OF YOUR ATTENTION ON THE DOG AND THE DOG IS IN A FIGHT OR FLIGHT MODE, HE WILL-BECOME EVEN MORE TERRIFIED THAT YOU ARE TRYING TO CATCH HIM. So work to get his attention and then do something with food, like pretend to eat and drop little bits behind you, to attract him to come to you.
They live virtually everywhere where cities exist and the local human population allows, especially in the developing world and the former USSR. Street dogs may be stray dogs, pets which have strayed from or are abandoned by their owners, or may be feral animals that have never been owned.

Activity: Nocturnal in nature, raccoons are mostly active at nighttime. They are most active in spring, summer and fall, and will sleep in their dens for most of the winter.
Raccoons prefer sweet foods like marshmallows or watermelon. Properly positioning the bait is crucial to success. Be sure to place the bait so the raccoon must fully enter the trap to reach it - see image for details. Raccoons can knock over a trap in attempt to steal the bait.
The best raccoon bait: Think local
- Canned tuna.
- Canned cat food.
- Spoiled smoked salmon.
- Roast turkey or chicken.
Raccoon feces will often look quite similar to dog poop, with fairly long cylinders that are usually quite dry, and the feces will often have visible pieces of berry, which is typical of raccoon feces.
The preferred raccoon diet contains food found in or near water, such as crayfish, frogs, fish, snails and clams. They also enjoy insects, eggs, fruits, vegetables, nuts and even dead animals.
Raccoons can be at the same time scary or friendly and it all depends. The animals may intrude the home and the people want to create the entrapment so that the raccoons can be killed or captured. However, when a raccoon is cage-shy, it may make the capture hard and the cost may require too much work.
Let's make the trap:
- Place the garbage can in an accessible location.
- Stand one cinder block on end against the garbage can.
- Lay the second cinder block on its side at the bottom of the garbage can.
- Place the bait on the second cinder block [source: Cinder Block Raccoon Trap].
- Check the trap the next morning.
Place some of the food behind the pan of the cage trap, and sprinkle some of the juice around so that it leads the raccoon to the trap. If cats are a problem, then use sweet baits such as molasses, marshmallows, or strawberry sugar wafers. Nontarget animals, such as opossums, may be attracted to the bait.
Red squirrels are the hardest to combat, because they cache food indoors, and they can learn to avoid traps. Every state has its own laws, but in Massachusetts, poisoning squirrels is illegal, as is transporting wildlife.
Under the 2006 Animal Welfare Act, once an animal is under the responsibility of a human they have a duty not to cause unnecessary harm. 'Pests' like the grey squirrel can be killed in a 'humane way', such as a blow to the back of the head or shooting, but drowning or beating the animal to death is illegal.
Squirrels simply don't like them. White pepper and cayenne smells frequently discourage squirrels, for example. If you sprinkle your plants with flakes of cayenne pepper, it might keep unwelcome pests out of your garden. Squirrels also dislike garlic and black pepper smells.
Live trapping method of trapping squirrels is the only way to remove unwanted squirrels. Catching a squirrel is really the only way to get rid of squirrels in your attic, once they have chewed holes. It is important to seal up and repair all entry points after trapping the squirrels, so they no longer have access.
Squirrels qualify as crepuscular animals, meaning they become most active during the evening and early morning hours. During the night, squirrels will settle down and spend the night resting in their den. If there are any squirrels in your home, you'll most likely notice them during the day.
You'll hear the most movement early morning and again towards sundown. Squirrels will leave the attic during the warmer parts of the day.
If there is no way into the attic, inspect the exterior eaves, vents and roof. Find out if it's a mother squirrel with young. In that case, the best thing to do is wait a few weeks until the babies grow old enough to leave with their mother—they won't survive without her.
