You should be able to open up your control setting in-game and so you could check what’s needed to press /hold to use your binoculars. It’s might be really the function to “hold” the button, and not just “press”.

Xbox 1 Battlefield 1 binoculars won’t come up. I should hold the button if i remember well, not just hit it. In the campaign you can use them in at least two of the stories (the sniper one, and the Lawrence of Arabia one) but you might be able to use them in all campaigns. You just hold Q down for awhile…
Please don’t ban me for this question. I am very confused, BF1 told me to press Q to use the binoculars. So I did. First I just pressed Q, nothing happened. So I held down on Q, and the binoculars came out, but how do I actually use them? Nothing I press brings them up to my eyes. I must be trippin. Signed. Utterly Confused
It seems I cannot use the binoculars on Xbox One X. I am playing campaign on the mission where I need to retrieve engine components for the tank. At the top of the first lookout tower, it says to use RB to use binocs. RB does nothing. I read a post that this is a glitch and said switch ADS to “hold,” but I do not see this option anywhere.
Summarize your bug When you start off the second mission in campaign on ps4 battlefield 1, it says use binoculars to survey the area and spot enemies but if you grab any gun on the map it completely breaks the use of binoculars which is a double lie because it says press R1 to use and its definitely press R1+L1 and it doesn’t work at all.

The “Hold Q to use binoculars” doesn’t work. It ONLY WORKS if you haven’t changed weapons throughout the entire War Story you’re playing through. I don’t know if this is also a multiplayer bug because i have yet to play the multiplayer. i also don’t know if it’s a only a Steam bug or if it also happens when playing through Origin.
