The portrait of Nadja uses Courbet's painting as its basis. Laszlo's portrait on the left is apparently an original created by the design team to match Nadja's, but it is very evocative of portraits of gentlemen in the mid-1800s. Juan Pantoja de la Cruz, Portrait of Diego de Villamayor, c. 1605.
Set in Staten Island, What We Do in the Shadows follows the lives of three traditional vampires, Nandor, Laszlo, and Nadja; Colin Robinson, an energy vampire; and Guillermo, Nandor's familiar. The series revolves around the centuries-old vampires interacting with the modern world and other supernatural beings.

"Nandor the Relentless," played by Kayvan Novak, is a fierce Ottoman warrior once known for pillaging villages and turning the Euphrates red with blood, but not so much for stealing hearts. Although he once had 37 wives and has over 200,000 direct living descendants, Nandor feels like his life is missing something.
It's mostly intended to be funny, but there's still a lot of blood and gore, including a spurting jugular vein and huge bloody messes, as well as fighting and some scary images.
