Can You Sleep on a Cruise Ship Balcony? There are no rules that say that passengers on cruise ships can't sleep on their balconies. That said, cruise lines do generally advise against it. Despite this many people enjoy sleeping on their balconies and you won't have any problem doing so if you want to.
A balcony may absolutely be worth it to you, but probably not if these are your primary reasons: 1) You're looking for a place to smoke. You can't smoke on cruise ship balconies. Guest demand has made most areas on most ships non-smoking, but in this case the reason is largely safety.
The "best cabins for seasickness" are located at the ship's edges (top decks, bow, and stern). The worst area in the front section, as the bow is first hit by waves. Higher deck front cabins fell more the up and down motion, while for the aft cabins the motion is less noticeable.
Some stateroom locations help prevent seasickness. Cruise Critic recommends a room in the middle of the ship on a lower deck. That location offers more stability for people who are prone to getting seasick. Higher decks and forward staterooms get more rolling and swaying motion when the sea is rough.
Starboard side is give way side in ROR (Rule of the road) and captain is expected to see the traffic on starboard side of his ship just to be aware of the traffic situation where it is his ship's duty to take action.

The front of a boat is called the bow, while the rear of a boat is called the stern. When looking towards the bow, the left-hand side of the boat is the port side. And starboard is the corresponding word for the right side of a boat.

Upper Deck Cabin ProsThe higher the deck, the better and, often, more panoramic the view. Cabins on top decks aren't always the best on the ship, but many suites and specialty cabin categories are typically located on upper decks. Most mega-ships place their lido (pool) areas on higher decks.

A good rule of thumb when choosing a room is picking one that has no public spaces directly one deck above or one deck below it. When choosing a room, you will need to look at if it's on a higher deck versus lower deck, as well as midship versus forward or aft.
This movement is largely due to the friction of the water upon the sides of the ship. The layers of water in immediate contact with the hull tend to cling to it, and are dragged along with increasing velocity, until at the stern of a long ship they are traveling approximately at the same speed as the vessel.
You must take early and substantial action to keep well clear of the other boat by altering your speed and course. You should pass at a safe distance to the port (left) or starboard (right) side of the other boat. If a safe route exists, you should always attempt to pass the boat on the starboard side.
Thus, as most of the sailors were right handed, the steering oar used to control the ship was located over or through the right side of the stern. The left side is called 'port' because ships with steerboards or star boards would dock at ports on the opposite side of the steerboard or star.

Because the green light is on the starboard(right) side of your boat, the red is the port(left). So, if you see them both then there is a chance you are looking down the nose of a boat. Two blasts from both means you will be passing on the starboard side.
