AutoFill is a very useful Excel feature. It allows you to create entire columns or rows of data which are based on the values from other cells. In other words, Excel compares the selected data and tries to guess the next values that will be inserted.
In case you need to get Excel AutoFill not working, you can switch it off by doing the following: Click on File in Excel 2010-2013 or on the Office button in version 2007. Go to Options -> Advanced and untick the checkbox Enable fill handle and cell drag-and-drop.
We can use the Auto Fill Options menu to change the fill from Copy Cells to Fill Series. The keyboard shortcut is: Alt+Menu Key, S. We can also use the Fill Series menu that is on the Home tab of the ribbon. Keyboard shortcut is Alt, h, f, i, s.
Copy a formula by dragging the fill handle in Excel for Mac
- Select the cell that has the formula you want to fill into adjacent cells.
- Rest your cursor in the lower-right corner so that it turns into a plus sign (+), like this:
- Drag the fill handle down, up, or across the cells that you want to fill.
- When you let go, the formula gets automatically filled to the other cells:
Go to the destination worksheet and click the cell where you want to link the cell from the source worksheet. On the Home tab, click on the drop-down arrow button of Paste, and select Paste Link from “Other Paste Options.” Or right-click in the cell on the destination worksheet and choose Paste Link from Paste Options.
Put the mouse pointer over the bottom right-hand corner of the cell until it's a black plus sign. Click and hold the left mouse button, and drag the plus sign over the cells you want to fill. And the series is filled in for you automatically using the AutoFill feature.
How to Set Up Autofill in Google Chrome
- Click the Chrome button in the upper-right corner of the browser.
- Choose Settings.
- Scroll all the way down and click Show Advanced Settings.
- Scroll further until you see Passwords and Forms.
- Click the Manage Autofill Settings link.
- To input your contact information, click the Add New Street Address button.

Give the list a range name.
- Select E2:E15--these are the existing cells you want to fill using the validation control.

Autofill is a function in some computer applications or programs, typically those containing forms, which prefills in a field automatically and save hours of time.
Autofill saves this information in your browser and allows you to fill in common form fields with a single click. Autofill can also save other types of information, such as website logins and credit card numbers. Most browsers securely store usernames and passwords for different websites.
How to change your Google Chrome autofill settings
- Tap the three dots — located either to the right of the address bar (on Android) or the bottom-left corner of the screen (on iPhone) — and select "Settings."
- To change your settings for autofill addresses, tap "Addresses and more" and toggle the feature on or off, or edit your saved information as necessary.
Autofill should not be confused with autocomplete, which is a browser feature that offers suggestions as you are typing. With autofill, you can select a field in the form, choose what you autofill data you want to enter, and all fields are filled out automatically.
We're currently testing out “autofill parity” in some regions, which means that when we make a match with an autofilled player on one team, the opposing team also has an autofilled player so the matchup feels more fair.
Stop saving info to Chrome
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chrome app .
- To the right of the address bar, tap More. Settings.
- Tap Autofill and payments.
- Tap Payment methods or Addresses and more. To stop saving payment info, turn off Save and fill payment methods.
