The Bears, who are celebrating their centennial season as the NFL celebrates the league's 100th birthday, unveiled a new white “classic” uniform that they will wear on a pair of home dates against the Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys.
The team wears an orange, shamrock-shaped "EWM" decal on its helmets to commemorate the death of Edward McCaskey, the husband of Virginia McCaskey and longtime chairman of the team. For the Thanksgiving game against the Cowboys, the Bears wear orange, a throwback to 1946.

These tactical maneuvers underscore an oft-overlooked factoid: NFL teams -- unlike their MLB, NBA and NHL counterparts -- don't have official home and road uniforms. Instead, the home team in an NFL game chooses to wear either white or colored jerseys, and the visiting team has to wear the opposite.
By wearing grey or another dark color the visiting team was better able to conceal the dirt and grass stains that had accumulated on their uniforms over the course of the series. The home team, having access to laundry facilities, was able to wear clean white uniforms each day, hence the term "home whites".
Super Bowl rules later changed to allow the designated home team to pick their choice of jersey. White was chosen by the Cowboys (XIII, XXVII), the Redskins (XVII), the Pittsburgh Steelers (XL), the Denver Broncos (50), and the New England Patriots (LII).
